John Hanson comes from a family of pilots, and has been an aviation fanatic as long as he can remember. Starting with spontaneously assembling his first model airplane at the age of two from clothespins in his mother's laundry basket, he made sure every phase of his life somehow involved airplanes. He bought his first real airplane at the age of fifteen, and has always either owned an airplane or been thinking about owning one ever since. Now retired from a forty-year airline career, he is on airplane #21, and has written this book about his life with these fabulous toys! There are two editions of the print version of this book available, each with 59 photos. This one is the more expensive of the two options, as 47 of the 59 photos are in color. John did a wonderful job writing this book. I really enjoyed the stories as he grew up purchasing his many airplanes along the way. John has a great sense of humour which makes his book fun to read.
A fun read, written by a fellow pilot who has more adventures and insight due to the many great stories he shares in this book. Highly recommend!
For anyone who loves flying, whether you're just starting out, or, like me, looking back longingly at your aeronautical roots, this is a good read. And if you're looking at buying an airplane, you can get a few pointers on what to do (like get a buyers inspection and title search) and what not to do.
Even though an amateur writer, John’s style is personable and draws you into his journey through aviating — especially each of his airplanes — and the people he encounters along the way. I am a private pilot and recently moved to Northfield, MN, so now that I’ve read his book, I’d like to meet the man in person. Oh, and the Stearman...I’d like to meet her, too,
